This movie is a about a young girl Starr, who after seeing the police wrongly shoot her friend in front of her becomes an activist against racism and police violence. The main major theme in this movie is racism. Starr attends a school with mostly white, upper-class students and then goes home to Garden Heights, where people are more likely to be black and have less money.
So, as she tries to balance her double life and being a voice in the community she take the tragedy that once dis empowered her, and with the help from her loyal friends, Starr manages to transform this traumatic memory into a force for good.
I enjoyed watching this movie because it gave me sense of hope and power in a time where young black man are being mercilessly shot down in the streets. This movie sends a very motivational message about a problem that must be solved.
